About K-pop Rocks

K-pop Rocks is an unofficial, fan-made lyrics archive for listeners who want to understand every line, not just hear it. The project began around 2016, when Korean pop lyrics, romanizations and translations were often scattered across separate blogs. It has since been rebuilt as a faster, accessible archive while preserving the community’s older contributions.

What is in the archive

  • 32,632 songs, including 29,101 Korean, 1,823 Japanese and 300 Chinese releases
  • 2,399 solo artists and 1,092 groups
  • 1,444 drama soundtracks with 3,004 linked songs

Most songs have up to three versions side by side: the lyrics in their original script (Hangul, Kanji and Kana, or Hanzi), a romanization for singing along, and an English translation. The catalogue also covers Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese and English releases. Drama soundtrack songs are linked to the drama they appear in, and every song links to its artist or group.

Where the lyrics come from

Original lyrics are transcribed from official releases and public lyric listings, such as music portals. Translations and romanizations were contributed by fans and translators over the years. Where a source survived the original import, the song page lists it under “Sources” so readers can check it. A source label describes where that text came from; it is not a songwriting credit.

How translations and romanizations work

Translations aim to carry the meaning of each line rather than translate word for word, and they follow the line breaks of the original so the versions can be read together. Older entries came from many contributors, so style and terminology can vary; the archive does not claim that every translation is definitive.

Romanizations follow how the words are sung. Korean entries broadly use familiar Revised Romanization spellings, adjusted where pronunciation makes a sing-along guide clearer. Japanese and Chinese entries likewise favour readable pronunciation guides over scholarly transliteration. They are listening aids, not substitutes for learning the original writing system.

Review and transparency

New factual metadata such as albums, release dates, songwriters and composers is added only when it can be checked against an official release or a reliable public music database. Dates labelled “Added” describe the archive record, not necessarily the song’s release date. K-pop Rocks does not publish star ratings or present reader likes as professional reviews.

Corrections

Lyrics transcribed by ear or translated by volunteers can contain mistakes. If you spot a wrong line, typo, missing source or incomplete translation, tell us. Include the song link, exact line and, when possible, a source. Reports are reviewed before the catalogue is changed so one well-intended edit does not erase another contributor’s work.
